Ribbon cutting ceremony marks launch of Summersides Retirement Residence

FONTHILL, NIAGARA, ONTARIO. Oct. 8, 2025 — Construction is officially underway at Summersides Retirement Residence, a new upscale retirement community coming to Fonthill, following a ribbon cutting ceremony held Wednesday, October 8th.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the project and was attended by representatives from the Town of Pelham, MPP Sam Oosterhoff’s office, and the Niagara Regional Chair’s office, along with Summersides development partners Mountainview Building Group and FRAM + Slokker.

Set to open in 2027, Summersides will offer a fresh, elevated approach to retirement living, designed for seniors seeking an active, fulfilling lifestyle with access to personalized care and upscale amenities. The community will feature independent living, assisted living, and memory care – blending comfort, care, and connection in a thoughtfully planned environment.

“Our goal is simple yet deeply meaningful: to create a diverse mix of housing options that support aging in place, allowing individuals to remain part of the same community as their needs evolve,” said Mark Basciano, President and Owner of Mountainview Building Group.

The project will unfold in three phases, beginning with a retirement home with 127 independent living suites, 12 assisted living units, and 27 memory care units. Future phases will introduce additional apartment-style residences with access to the same community amenities and services.

Michael Zwiep, a representative attending on behalf of MPP Sam Oosterhoff’s office, applauds the exceptional initiative, saying, “This exciting new development is critical in expanding the mix of housing options, which include retirement homes, long-term care homes, and renovation supports for aging in place. This project directly addresses the growing number of seniors who call Niagara home.”

Summersides aims to redefine senior living in the Niagara region, featuring wellness-focused design, gourmet dining, a 24/7 wellness team, and amenities such as a yoga studio, indoor pool, golf simulator, spa, and library, among other amenities.

The waitlist is now open for priority suite selection, early access to updates, and exclusive offers. More information is available at summersidesretirement.ca.
